Compulsory Basic Training from A to Z

Learn to ride a motorcycle with A to Z. The CBT is the first level test required by law to ride a 125cc motorcycle on public roads with a learner plate attatched. Since the introduction of this type of training accidents involving learner motorcyclists have decreased by almost 70%.

This course consists of five elements:-

Element A
Helmets and clothing
To begin with our instructors will give you a short introduction to motorcycle saftey clothing. Including helmets, visors and goggles, gloves and boots and a look at the different types of motorcycle clothing available.
Element B
Introduction to the motorcycle
In this element our instructor will familiarise you with your motorcycle, covering controls and instruments, daily safety checks, weekly maintainence checks, pushing the bike to get a feel of the weight and balance and taking it on and off the stands safely.
Element C
Practical onsite riding
By the time you have finished this element you will have developed enough basic skills to allow you to ride a motorcycle under control. Includes starting and stopping the engine, riding in a straight line, using the brakes effectively, changing gear, riding in a figure of eight, emergency stopping, rear observations, turning left and right at junctions and U turns.
Element D
Practical on road training
Before we take you out on the road your instructor will give you an introdution to riding a motorcycle safely. Topics will include vunrability, legal reqirements, conspicuity, speed, Highway Code, anticipation, rear observation, road positioning, separation distance, weather conditions, road surfaces, alocohol and drugs, attitude and hazard perception. This element covers the information you need to ride legally and safely on the road.
Element E
Practical on road riding
Once your instructor is satisfied that you will be safe you will be taken for your first ride out the road. You will be accompanied by and in radio contact with a certified instructor at all times. Your road ride lasts at least two hours where you will experience a variety of different road and traffic conditions including traffic lights, roundabouts, junctions, pedestrian crossings, gradients, bends, obstructions, U turns and emergency stopping. During this ride expect to stop now and again to discuss aspects of your riding and how to put theory into practice. When they are satisfied you will be safe to ride on your own your instructor will sign a certificate of completiton (DL196) CBT certificate which allows you to ride up to a 125cc motorcycle with learner plates on UK roads and is your first step towards getting a full motorcycle licence.
